Choosing the Right Lens
for the Patient

In choosing the right contact lens for the patient it is easy to become overwhelmed with the wide range of contact lens options provided by the modern contact lens industry. Contact lens characteristics like replacement schedule, potential solution interactions, comfort, and oxygen permeability rank near the top of the practitioner's mind.

However, I also find it helpful to think from the patient's perspective and consider additional characteristics like optimal vision, how easy the lens is to handle, and how well it resists tearing through its intended life-span. After communicating these intended features of a contact lens to a patient, I find they are particularly appreciative that I recognize how these lenses fit into their daily lives.
