CLToday Fitting Tip of the Month

November 2007

Talking to New Patients About the Best Contact Lens Option
Never judge the desire for contact lenses based upon the patient's age. So many adults have never been offered the option of a contact lens fitting because of the need for a bifocal. There are a number of contact lens options for patients other than monovision. We have well trained technicians in the office and they offer a demonstration that day.
All of our astigmatic patients hear an explanation of their condition, and are informed that 80-90% of our patients have the same condition. We inform them that we can correct astigmatism with contact lenses and we offer a trial while the patient is in the office.
We believe most of our patients who have dropped out of contact lens wear did so due to allergy or dry eye. We tell them about new solutions and materials and our ability to diagnose these conditions. With today’s products, we can oftentimes return these patients to successful contact lens wear.
