Toric Lens Rotation

One issue that I try to reinforce with the students I teach is to always measure rotational recovery when fitting soft toric lenses. After spending the time to determine the optimal sphere, cylinder, and axis, and adjusting for any on-eye lens rotation, it is a shame to send the patient home and have them return unhappy due to an unstable lens rotation. Like everting eyelids, it is sometimes a bit of a pain, but confirming that the lens has a tendency to rotate back to its "intended" position time and time again can save time and money for everyone. When explaining this to students, I find myself repeating the old adage my grandmother would often say--"an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
